Files marked with this Gold
Icon (featuring a wave form) are streaming files, as
opposed to files that download.
Streaming files are accessed directly from a hosting
server. Streaming a file means
playing a file on your PC without having to download
it. These files are not downloaded or stored in your
'My Shared Folder', though a small placeholder image
file is downloaded with each streaming file. This is
different from downloads that occur using peer-to-peer
(P2P) technology. Downloaded files are stored in your
'My Shared Folder' for other users to download from you
(if you have sharing enabled). Read about how downloads
occur via peer-to-peer.
Relevant streaming files appear in normal search results,
along with downloadable files.
To Use a Streaming File:
- Play/Use the file by double clicking on it in your
search results.
- A window will pop up in Kazaa, where the file will automatically
play. The file will show as 'Completed' in 'Traffic' view,
although it has not been downloaded.
- To Play/Use the file again, simply search for the
file and double click on it again in your search results.
There are three ways
you can stream media from 'Search' view:
A window will pop up in which the file will automatically
play. If you want to play the stream more than once you
will have to perform the same search again before clicking
on the search result to re-activate it.
* This will not
actually download the file, but will stream it as it
is a Streaming file. However, a small image file will
be downloaded in parallel to streaming with information
on where you can access featured streams. You will
be able to view the file in the Images folder in 'My
Kazaa' view, and may delete it when you are finished.
