The Guide - The Glossary - Integrity Rating

Integrity Rating

Kazaa includes a feature called 'Integrity Rating'. The use of Integrity Ratings supports the spread of good quality, accurately represented files.

Every user is able to easily rate every file they share based on technical quality and accuracy of file data (metadata).

Users are rewarded for integrity rating their files by earning double points towards their Participation Level when an integrity rated file is uploaded. Read more about Participation Level.

Why Should I Integrity Rate My Files?

In order to guide other users who may be interested in the files you are sharing, you are encouraged to rate the integrity of your files and delete those which should not be shared. File integrity is based on its technical quality and the accuracy of its descriptive file data (metadata). It is not how much you like or enjoy the file, just its technical merits. Files can be given the following ratings:

Excellent : Has complete file data (metadata) describing the file and is of an excellent technical quality.
Average : Has some file data (metadata) describing the file, is of a moderate technical quality.
Poor : Poor technical quality, no file data (metadata).
Delete File : Where the file should not be shared e.g. it is virus infected, of unusable technical quality, or illegal.

How Do I Rate Them?

  1. Go to 'My Kazaa' view inside Kazaa.
  2. Right click on the file and select ‘Integrity Rating’. Then select ‘Excellent’, ‘Average’, ‘Poor’ or ‘Delete File’ from the drop down menu.

Alternatively:

  1. Go to 'My Kazaa' view inside Kazaa.
  2. Right click on the file and select 'Edit Details'.
  3. Select 'Excellent', 'Average', or 'Poor' from the drop down menu below the heading 'Integrity Rating'.
  4. You can also enter data into the 'Category' and 'Type' fields under the 'General' tab. By selecting the 'More' tab you can enter the language of the file, any relevant keywords that will make it easier for other users to find the file, and you can write a short description of the file which will appear when other users find the file in their search results and hover their mouse over the file.

Bogus, Fake or Illegal Files

If a file is not what it claims to be, or should not be shared, you should:

  • Correct its file data (metadata) using the method above, or
  • Just delete it as you normally would. This helps to improve the quality of searching and downloading using Kazaa by correcting poorly named files and removing bogus, fake or illegal ones.

You will be rewarded for integrity rating your files. Read about Participation Level.
