Sharing is making your content available to other peer-to-peer users.
Responsible sharing is the key to useful peer-to-peer
experiences. Users need to share appropriate files in order
for everyone to benefit from the collaboration. Successful
peer-to-peer is a two way street.
Kazaa is a simple and effective way for you to promote your own
content. Any audio/music, documents, images, software or
videos that you have created and own, can be placed in
your 'My Shared Folder' to be downloaded by others. Your ‘My Shared Folder’ is usually located on your desktop.
The most valuable contribution you can make to peer-to-peer is to provide original content for others to enjoy. You can also collect works in the public domain, that are licensed for public distribution (e.g. Creative
Commons licenses), or open source software and become a resource for others. For ideas about what you could create and how to label your created files, go to our 'Kreate'
page.
Sharing content using P2P is a perfect way for musicians, producers, poets, photographers and artists to make their work available to others, while enhancing the peer-to-peer experience for everyone. You can even distribute your content securely through the premium
content companies.
Kazaa is set up to allow the user to control what, and how much they share. You can:
- Specify which files you share.
- Decide how many files you allow to be downloaded by other Kazaa users at any one time. This minimizes the impact on your computer and bandwidth capacity.
- Decide whether to reply to instant messages from other users.
When you select a folder to share, all files and sub-folders inside that folder will be available for other Kazaa users to download. Please take great care not to accidentally share files that are illegal, confidential or which you do not have the right to distribute. You should never share your entire hard drive or ‘My Documents’ folder.
To ensure you only share the appropriate files it is safest to only use the 'My
Shared Folder'. This means that all files inside the 'My Shared Folder' are available
for other Kazaa users to find and download from you. Any new files
you download will automatically go into 'My Shared Folder'.
If you want to share any files you've created (which is a good thing to do)
you
can copy them into 'My Shared Folder' through the Windows Explorer program.
Read more about sharing in 'Detailed Guide'.
