Getting started

I can't install or start Kazaa, what should I do?

This can happen for many reasons. Please go through the following process to try and clear up the problem:

  • Make sure there's enough disk space. Kazaa requires at least 20MB to install.
  • Uninstall all existing copies of Kazaa from your computer.
  • Clear the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Kazaa keys from the Windows registry. To do this: click Start > Run, Type in Regedit, and press Enter; Then browse for the Kazaa keys and delete them.
  • Download the latest version of Kazaa and try installing again.

The Search and Traffic buttons are inactive, what is wrong?

These buttons are only active when Kazaa is 'Connected'. Make sure you are connected to the Internet, restart Kazaa and wait a couple of minutes.

My Kazaa just says ‘Connecting’, why won't it connect?

    • Make sure you are connected to the Internet (check to see if your web and email are working).
    • Restart Kazaa and wait for couple of minutes.

If the computer still reports 'Connecting' something is probably blocking connections to port 1214 on your computer. This could be a Firewall located on your computer, on your local network, or at your ISP. You should open up port 1214 on this firewall, or configure SOCKS5 on both the firewall and Kazaa. You will most likely need your network administrator to assist with this.

How can I stop Kazaa launching automatically when I turn on my PC?

This bug was fixed in Kazaa v2.

If you are using Kazaa v2.1 (or later) and Kazaa is launching automatically when you start your PC simply click on ‘Tools’ and then ‘Options’ from the main menu. An ‘Options’ box will be displayed. Click on the 'My Kazaa' tab and see if the 'Launch Kazaa Automatically' checkbox is selected. If the checkbox is selected, simply click on the checkbox using your mouse and this will unselect it. Once this is done, click OK and Kazaa will not start automatically.
