Downloading & Uploading
Why does it say 'Connecting' in the progress field in ‘Traffic’ view?
'Connecting' means the computer of the Kazaa user who is sharing the file you are requesting to download, is being contacted for connection information. When the user's computer responds the connection will start.

My downloads start, but after a minute or so, they show failed.
Your disk may be full. Try clearing some space.

Why are my downloads so slow?
Download speed is dependent on the user(s) you are downloading from. Your downloads cannot be faster than their upload bandwidth allows. If you are downloading a file marked with a Blue Icon try right-clicking the file you're downloading and select 'Find More Sources for Download', this will make Kazaa look for additional sources to download from and may increase the download speed. If you are downloading a file marked with a Gold
Icon this will happen automatically.

Why was my download disrupted?
When you are downloading a file marked with a Blue Icon,
you are downloading directly from another computer that can
be located anywhere in the world. If this computer disconnects
from the Internet while you are downloading, your download
will be disrupted. Kazaa uses intelligent
downloads to periodically try to continue downloading your
file from other Kazaa users, so just leave Kazaa to run until
it finds the file again. You can also try right-clicking
the file and choose 'Find More Sources for Download', this
will make Kazaa look for additional sources to download from
and may increase the download speed. If you are downloading
a file marked with a Gold
Icon this will happen automatically.

What does the 'More Sources Needed'
message mean?
It means that all the users sharing the file you want went offline while you were downloading. Kazaa uses intelligent downloads to periodically try to continue downloading your file, so just leave Kazaa to run until it finds the file again.

Why do so many uploads from my machine end up aborted?
Don't worry, this is due to uploads being taken from multiple sources. The user uploading from you probably finished the download using an alternative source.

Can I get viruses using Kazaa?
As always, when downloading or receiving files from the
Internet, you must exercise caution. Certain files may
contain viruses or Trojan horses. You should protect
yourself by using regularly updated anti-virus
software.
Kazaa v2 and above contains
built-in virus
protection from Bullguard.
Good virus
protection utilities include BullGuard (www.bullguard.com),
Norton Antivirus (www.norton.com)
and McAfee (www.mcafee.com).
Both Norton Antivirus and McAfee offer free 30-day trial
versions that you can download directly from their web
sites.
Not all file types can contain viruses, most media files
are generally safe - that includes MP3, WAV, MPG, AVI,
MOV, BMP, JPG, PDF and TXT files. You should be cautious
of executable files (EXE), DAT files and Microsoft Office
Files (DOC and XLS). You can use a built-in filter in Kazaa to automatically block suspicious files.
The filter is located under ‘Options’ in the ‘Tools’ menu.
See our Virus Protection Tips page for more information.

I have found a virus/adult/copyright/damaged
file on Kazaa, can you please remove it?
No. We have no control over the content that you can find
with Kazaa; the content is supplied by the
users of the software. You can inform the user who is supplying
the media file and ask them to remove the file, or you
can use the filters in Kazaa to block that
type
of file in future. You'll find this option in Tools > Options > Filter.
