Read about the 'Search' view tool bar options

1. P2P Search

The easiest way to search is to click on the 'Search' button in the top tool bar. The P2P (file) search options are automatically displayed.

‘Quick’ Search

Type keywords into the 'Search for:' field and click the 'Search' button. This will search all types of media for any files matching the keywords you have used.

If you are after a particular type of file, you can narrow your search to include only one type of media. Kazaa Media Desktop supports searches for audio, documents, images, playlists, software and video.

If you select a media type, you can go back to searching all media by clicking ‘Everything’.

‘Advanced’ search

Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab to further define your search.

‘Search More’

If you are not happy with the results of your search click on ‘Search More’. Kazaa Media Desktop will conduct the search again and may find the file you are looking for during the new search. The number of ‘Search Mores’ you are able to perform increases as your Participation Level improves.

Search Results

Each file in your search results is marked with an icon.

Gold
Gold Icons identify high quality files brought to you from professional creators via Altnet. These files are digitally rights managed and are typically offered on a free, or free-trial basis. Read more about Altnet and our premium content.

Blue
Blue Icons identify all other files found in users' shared folders.

To view a file's data click on it once and its file data (metadata) will show in the info space above the search results listed.

Kapsules

Kapsules contain a collection of individual files and are marked with a unique Gold Icon: Read more about Kapsules.

Concurrent Searches

With Kazaa 2.6 you can perform up to 24 searches simultaneously.

Multiple Sources

Sometimes a '+' will be displayed to the left of the file icon. This '+' means that the file to its right is available for download from multiple sources. If you select to download the file, it will download from those multiple sources simultaneously, making the download speed faster.

Read more about downloads from multiple sources.

Multiple Search Results Tabs

Each search you perform is displayed in a new window. This means that your search results won’t be overwritten by each new search you perform.

Kapsule files are automatically displayed in a new search result tab once they are opened.

You can switch between the search result windows by clicking on the tabs at the top of the current search results window. Once you are finished with the results of a search, just click ’X’ on the search tab to close it.

‘Find More From Same’

At various times you can find files that have something in common with a file you already have. For instance, you can find files:

  • from the same artist (audio/music, documents, image)
  • from the same album (audio/music)
  • from the same publisher (software)
  • from the same user

Just right mouse click on the file that you are referring to, select 'Find More From Same' and select the appropriate option.

Search Filter

By going to 'Tools>Options' and selecting 'Filter' you can change the settings to suit your needs. Filter options include:

  • Family content filter - designed to filter out adult or offensive content.
  • Filter viruses, firewalls, bogus files.
  • Filters contents of Blocklist.
