have benefits for peer-to-peer (p2p) users and content
owners.
Magnet links allow website designers to provide links
to downloadable files that are available on a p2p network.
The use of magnet links can speed up popular downloads
for end users and content providers can save on bandwidth
fees.
Previous to magnet links, content owners would have to
host all downloadable files and pay the fees for all bandwidth
occurred when users download them. If a particular file
or set of files proved popular, the owner’s bandwidth bill
would rise proportionally. Magnet links solve this issue
by allowing the content owners to move their distribution
method for media files to the much-more economical p2p
model.
