Katy Kissed A Girl

Katy Perry kissed a girl. And, apparently, she liked it. She informs us of the fact as she frolics amongst a burlesque harem of lingerie donning, soft skinned vixens with sex hair. They smile coyly and flirt with the camera, and yes. They're having a pillow fight. As the video clip winds down, Perry wakes up in bed next to her manly, stubble-faced boyfriend. She flashes a cheeky, somewhat shameful grin and closes her eyes, revisiting her dream as a fantasy. Is it her fantasy or her video producers cashing in on controversy and feeding every straight mans fantasy? And, being a fantasy, the 'gay identity crisis' it suggests fails to ring true. Instead it seems to be a plea for attention from Perry's boyfriend and her audience. To her credit, she doesn't seem to take herself too seriously and there's a playful irony mixed into the performance. At least she knows that she's not real. Although I Kissed a Girl has been met with mixed reviews, the controversy of the song (along with the catchy tune and lyrics that just beg to be noticed) has pushed it to the top of the charts in over twenty countries. The blue eyed brunette with a mischievous smile has been dubbed the antithesis of Avril Levigne. She has all the attitude but it's a pretty attitude that softens the blow of her passive aggressive debut single, 'Ur So Gay," released in 2007. The lyrics are actually quite funny, and her sweet cynicism is charming as she rips apart the emo/indie scene. I have to agree with her on this one. It's hard to take a boy seriously when he's wearing more eyeliner than you are. Her single, Hot N Cold is a sassy, spunky pop rock number with a furious beat. The video has a fed up and frustrated Perry spewing biting remarks at her run-away bridegroom while she tries to dance in a ripped up wedding dress. With a zebra. It's a fun track. Most of hers are. She plays with her audience and has a colorful sense of humor, never taking herself too seriously, which is always refreshing when it comes to pop stars.
